Internet is a ‘gift from God’ - Catholic Pope Francis

I know some of you may disagree but personally I believe everything useful in this world has the permission of God but the main point is how we use or abuse it that matters...well I'm using mine for blogging..lol!

Below is what the pope said today regarding the Internet.....
In his message ,  Pope Francis said the Internet offers “immense possibilities” to encounter people from different cultural and traditional backgrounds and show solidarity with them.
“This is something truly good, a gift from God,” he wrote. But he warned that  “The desire for digital connectivity can have the effect of isolating us from our neighbours and  from those closest to us.”

LASUTH Successfully Carries Out First Corrective Ear Surgery.

The Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), Ear Nose and Throat (ENT) department and The Cochlear Foundation, University of Freiburg, Germany have successfully carried out the first corrective surgery in two people with severe hearing problem in Lagos.
The Cochlear Implantation is a hearing device implanted into a deaf patient’s ear through surgery. The device is said to convert sound into impulses which enable the patients to hear and understand.
The mission, according to the Chief Medical Director, Profesor Adewale Oke, is another feat in the hospital’s quest to provide excellent health for the people of the state.
Professor Oke also reiterated that the surgery would, to a very large extent, improve self-esteem and build social confidence in patients who had as a result of loss of hearing isolated themselves from societal engagements.
In his own remark, the Chairman, LASUTH Board, Dr Olatunde Williams, said that Freiburg University and LASUTH had found a lasting solution to a long standing problem through Cochlear Implantation in deaf people

20 Year-old Flies Drone In Benin

Although the scene caused traffic congestion at the Oba Ovoranmwen Square in Benin City, capital of Edo State, there was a however a wave of excitements when a 20 year old boy, Aghogho Ajine tested a drone he built at home.

The drone, as big as a traveling bag, was controlled by a hand held device as it flew through the sky and landed as directed.

Against this backdrop, operatives of Edo State Traffic Management Agency [EDTMA] held the boy.

For performing such feat, Aghogho was raised shoulder high by the elated crowd after the drone landed as directed.

In a brief interview, Aghogho said he is 20 years old and has never been to any school.

He said he built the drone from a personal research at home.
"I am from Delta State. I have not been to any school before. My house is my school. I learnt it at home from my research. I used plywood to build it."

Powerful Nigerians Frustrating National ID Scheme – NIMC

The National Identity Management Commission has accused some “powerful Nigerians” of frustrating its efforts of ensuring that the National Identity Management System becomes a reality.

It described as difficult the entire terrain of the scheme, as those it accused of frustrating it had not relented in making the process difficult with the primary objective of maintaining the status quo.

The Director-General and Chief Executive Officer, NIMC, Dr. Chris Onyemenan, said that the fight to bring the project to fruition had been tense, adding that the individuals concerned were benefiting from the current system without a coordinated national identity system.

He said, “Managing the transition period and the period during which the unseen infrastructure is developed and deployed, and the data collected in the face of stiff opposition from defenders of the status quo, and those who like to feed off public treasury, has been a difficult one.

“Much of the bad press and delays here and there come from these sources and the distractions they introduce into our processes unfortunately.”

Another big challenge, he added, was the failure of the concessionaires to meet their obligations, including setting up and running the enrolment centres “because they have not been able to secure the financial closure to invest in the NIMS and deliver on their obligations.”

Filling the gap is in itself another major challenge, according to him.

Bank Workers Live In Fear As Job Losses Continue

The wave of sacking that characterised the banking sector a couple of years back has not abated as the axes are dangling on more workers, ADEMOLA ALAWIYE writes

Indications have emerged that more bank workers will lose their jobs in 2014 following cost-cutting measures about to be introduced by the deposit money banks in order to mitigate the effects of some regulatory policies on their profitability.

Since the era of the global financial crisis in the mid-2008 and the special audit test carried out on banks by the Central Bank of Nigeria, the banking sector has witnessed a chain of job losses estimated at more than 15,000 by industry watchers.

Our correspondent learnt that the recent increase of Cash Reserve Ratio on public sector funds from 50 per cent to 75 per cent, among other policies, was the main reason for embarking on the staff rationalisation programme.

An investigation showed that while some banks were considering ‘casualisation’ as an option, other banks were considering the establishment of more e-branches where transactions would be made electronically without cash. The e-branches, our correspondent learnt, will have only one bank official, who will assist customers that are not literate.

Guidelines for Aquisition of Land In the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, Nigeria.

Land acquisition in Abuja, FCT,Nigeria, could be tedious especially when
one is not a residence or when one is ignorance of the proccess. One can own
a plot of land by direct allocation either from any of the six area councils or
directly from the administration of the Federal Capital Development Authority
(FCDA). Alternatively, one could also aquire land by buying from a person who
has been previously allocated by either the FCT or any of the area councils, or
some one who has bought from a direct allotee.

The most simplest way of land acquisition in the FCT is through purchase, where
an individual or corporate body wants a piece of land for whatever purpose, and
at a certain size and location, has the money to pay for it.
These tips will certainly assist a prospective buyer, if strictly adhere , to make a
good buy.
