Women Across Nigeria Condemn Killings Of Students In N/East Nigeria


 

Women groups across Nigeria today (Thursday) gathered to mourn the tragic massacre and abduction of school children in the north eastern part of the country.
The women dressed in black and carrying placards,  condemned the unwarranted killing of young people, which has taken a new turn, as militants freely target and kill innocent souls.
The group in Lagos was at the Government House, Ikeja, and submitted a letter of protest for onward submission to the federal government. The letter urged the federal government to take drastic actions against the killings.
The protests took place in other ten cities including Ekiti, Abuja and Port Harcourt.
In Edo State, the women converged at Urokopota Hall and walked through Major streets in Benin City with brief stops at the Edo State House of Assembly, the State Secretariat of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, and thereafter terminated their walk at the Ministry of Women affairs in the state.
The women who were all dressed in black attires bore placards of various inscriptions, Mrs Ronke Ojeikere who coordinated the walk in the state said what they all seek is a stop to the endless killings, kidnap and rape of women and children nationwide, they also demanded for improved security of lives and property in the country.
In Abuja, the women were at the National Human Rights Commission and Federal Ministry of Justice to ask government officials and security agencies to do more in securing the lives of people.
A member of the Nigeria Women Mourn group, Maryam Uwais, in an exclusive nterview with Channels Television, noted that “these children go to school and come back as corpses” adding that “it is unthinkable for many of us that have children”, pleading with “the authorities; are these people invisible?” insisting that “they go around in convoys of 50 cars, operate for five hours and nobody stops them”.
