A Kaduna railway community today
rejected decision by Kaduna state government to convert a school to an
Ebola quarantine facility. Continue...
The community, popularly known as ‘Down Quarters’ close to the Kaduna
Junction of Nigerian Railway said it needed development infrastructure
and not Ebola that will affect and harm the community.
A young community member, Bayo Peter, who called the SaharaReporters
office, announced that the community had held a protest against the
decision to convert the school to an Ebola treatment center.
Bayo, in the telephone call, fumed that the government had neglected
his area for many years and demanded that the government provide
development infrastructure instead of an Ebola treatment center.
“We don’t have water, road and
stable electricity and there is absolute insecurity. They did not
remember us until Ebola outbreak so that we will all die”, Bayo said.
Bayo further added, “there are forests along Abuja and Zaria roads,
they should take Ebola center there and not in our area. Railway station
is a very busy and populated place, we don’t want it and this is our
stand.”
