2 die as Cholera ravages Jigawa

No fewer than two children were confirmed dead, while many others have been hospitalized following a cholera outbreak in Takur area in Dutse local government area of Jigawa state.
The state commissioner for health Dr. Tafida Abubakar confirmed the outbreak of the epidemic to newsmen yesterday in his office at Dutse the state capital.

He said the incident happened as a result of unhygienic environment cause by failure of electricity connected to provide enough and hygienic water for use in the area.

Report indicated that the epidemic started manifesting in the state over weekend and since then the situation has gone from bad to worse.

Speaking on measures taken to contain the epidemic Dr. Tafida said: ” We met with the sole administrator of the state’s environmental and protection agency to assist in cleaning up the area.”
