Head Coach of the
Super Falcons, Edwin Okon, has submitted his final 21-man list of the
players that would represent Nigeria at next month's African Women
Championship in line with CAF’s 29th September deadline. Continue...
Most valuable player of the FIFA U20 Women World Cup, Asisat Oshoala,
as expected made the final cut, despite assumptions that Okon might
make one or two surprise omissions, considering some players haven’t
been part of the two week camp. Okon, however, chose to keep faith in
his highly experienced foreign contingent which includes experienced
defenders Esther Sunday, Onome Ebi, and one of the most fearsome
strikers in the world, Desire Oparanozie.
Coach Okon said that the players are in the best form of their lives and admits it is not easy to drop any of them.
Meanwhile, team Algeria, which has been in Windhoek since Sunday,
were the first team to arrive in Namibia for the Championship before
Ghana’s Black Queens. South Africa also arrived the country yesterday.
The five others; Cameroon, Cote d’Ivoire, Nigeria, South Africa, and
Zambia are expected from 7 October 2014, four days before the opening
ceremony.
Hosts Namibia, Nigeria, Cote d’Ivoire and Zambia are in Group A
whilst Algeria, Cameroon, Ghana, and South Africa make up Group B.
The three top finishers at the tournament will represent the continent at the 2015 FIFA women’s World Cup in Canada.
