Ekiti Traders in panic and agony as Oja-Oba Market is about to be Demolish
Following Governor Ayo Fayose public announcement about the demolition of the Erekesan market in Ado-Ekiti, around 2,000 traders rushed to meet the deadline.
The demolition of the popular market also known as Oja-Oba or King’s market is planned on November 8.
The market, located directly opposite the palace of the traditional ruler in Ado-Ekiti, will be replaced with a modern one.
In a state broadcast on Tuesday night Governor Fayose declared that there’s no way that the demolition will be cancelled.
Moreover, the governor had already paid compensation to the traders, asking them to relocate to the market at Awedele area or prepare for forceful eviction.
Meanwhile, the shop owners are leaving their workplaces and will continue their trade at a temporary market situated about a thousand metres away from the old one.
