Former Senator Nkechi Nwaogu, the senator representing Abia Central senatorial
district has officially defected from the former ruling Peoples
Democratic Party to the All Progressives Congress.
The senator who first joined the Senate in 2003 condemned
the economic policies of the immediate past President Goodluck
Jonathan-led administration, saying that they were shrouded in secrecy.
Nwaogu had visited the APC national headquarters in Abuja today,
November 5, where she said she came to express her appreciation to the
national leadership of the party for its support and concern during her
late husband’s funeral, Leadership reports. Continue...
She said: “l am here to fraternise myself once again with my
party, APC, to identify myself, to associate myself with the change
train and anybody today in this country who does not realise that this
is a divine mandate given to APC to usher in change to sustain change,
to bring about change in all endeavours of our lives especially in our
economic lives is not realistic.
“We all know what has been happening or what has happened in the
economy of our dear nation that it was shrouded in secrecy. Thanks to
the emergence of President Muhammadu Buhari and the change doctrine,
change mantra and change advocates.
The Abia senator said that those who have sworn not to conceive
anything of the truth would not see the much talked about change
explaining that even the holy book says that it is only the truth that
can set us free.
“For us to attempt to bring to a level of acceptance for the
president to remove the present level of unemployment, to remove or try
to see how we can increase our revenue, to see that we have no other
country other than Nigeria, therefore everybody has a contribution to
make towards revamping this nation.
“This nation is blessed with natural resources. It beholds on us
to put our brains and our contributions together as citizens of this
nation to ensure that when we train our children out from tertiary
institutions, that they do not come out to roam in the street. They say
an idea man is a devil’s workshop.
“I am pledging to the family of APC that I am now part of APC
that is to say that wherever l would be called upon l will serve and l
also use this medium to solicit everybody who has agreed to join this
party to ensure that you have something positive to contribute towards
nation building.”
The senator spoke in company of two of the APC Board of Trustees
members, Chief Sam Nkire and Chief Chris Akomas, a former deputy
governor of Abia state.
Commending the APC and President Buhari for the new mantra of change,
she also added that those who are joining or have joined APC are people
of positive minds.
Meanwhile, the opposition
PDP accused senators on the platform of the APC of acting out their
party’s script by rejecting the N5,000 monthly stipend for unemployed youth which the ruling party promised Nigerians during electioneering campaign.
