“As a matter of fact, this government has awarded a total of 180 road contracts for various streets in Owerri. If you are also conversant with the geography of Owerri, you will find there is what I will call this imaginary divide between the New Owerri and the Old Owerri. The Old Owerri has streets like Wethdral Road, Douglas Road, Royce Road and so on. The New Owerri is where you have the Concord Hotel and other hotels that have sprang up there in recent years. If you want to go to the New Owerri from the Old Owerri, you have to go to where we call the Port Harcourt Road or the Assumpta Cathedral…. and then head towards Owerri, whereas the distance between the New Owerri and the Old Owerri is less than 200 metres. But this part of town is divided by a River called Nworie. You find that over the years this Nworie River criss-crosses most of Owerri and divides the New Owerri from the Old Owerri… Yet nobody had thought of making any connection between them. It’s to the credit of this present government that that connection has been made. As we speak, two bridges have been constructed across Nworie such that the journey you have to do in what I consider as circuitous manner before ….you can now do across Nworie and that will not be more than 300 metres,” he informed with pride.

48.3 Million Nigerians Browse The Internet On Mobile Phones
A total of 48.3 million telephone subscribers actively browse the Internet on their mobile phones, investigations have shown. Statistics obtained from the Nigerian Communications Commission on Friday showed that Internet subscriptions through the telecommunications operators increased by 26.44 per cent between May 31 and June 30, 2013. Active Internet subscription as of the endof June, but it was, however, 16.29 per cent less than the total Internet mobile subscriptions. At the end of June, a total of 57.7 million telephone subscribers had Internet subscription, although only 48.3 million were active subscribers. This means that a total of 9.4 million Internet subscriptions were inactive. At the end of May, the active mobile Internet subscription stood at 38.2 million. This means that within a period of one month (between May and June), 10.1 million active subscribers started using the Internet on their phones, a difference of 26.44 per cent. The total subscription at the end of May, however, stood at 44.69 million. This translates to an inactive population of 6.49 million subscribers or a ratio of 14.52 per cent. With an active subscription of 24.5 million, MTN Nigeria Communications Limited had the largest mobile Internet subscription rate at the end of June. This means that 50.72 per cent of all mobile Internet subscribers as of June 30 were hooked to the MTN network. |

Age Requirement Is Unconstitutional In Job Eligibility Criteria
It is a usual practice by recruiting organizations to specify age
requirements as part of their eligibility criteria. In most vacancies
the maximum age for entry level applicants is usually pegged at 27/28
and in some ridiculous circumstances 24/25. After consulting the 1999
Constitution I discovered that this practice is unconstitutional as it
is a form of discrimination.
Section 42 subsection 2 states that “No citizen of Nigeria shall be subjected to any disability or deprivation merely by reason of the circumstances of his birth”. Ladies and gentlemen your date of birth and hence your age is a circumstance of birth so also is your sex and ethnicity. Employers have been getting away with this constitutional violation because nobody has challenged the practice rather people go about doctoring their ages so as to meet up with these ridiculous age requirements.
The following are the only jobs that the constitution has placed age restrictions and these jobs are mostly electoral office positions;
1) President ; must be 40 years old...section 131 subsection 2b
2) Vice president; same as that of the president... section 142 subsection 2
3) Senator; must be 35 years old...section 65 subsection 1a
4) House of representative; must be 30 years old... section 65 subsection 1b
5) Governor ; must be 35 years old...section 177 subsection 1b
6)  eputy Governor; ; same as that of the Governor... section 187 subsection 2
7) Members of the house of assembly; must be 30 years old... section 106 subsection 1b
Other jobs include state commissioners and special advisers to governors (which have the same requirements as those of members of the house of assemble) and ministers and special advisers to the president of the federation (which have the same requirements as those of the House of Representatives).

"Great Nigerian Youth... How Far?" - Written by Charly Boy
One of the many things God blessed me with, would be the ability to go to sleep at will even if my house is on fire. I consider that as a gift because, this environment has murdered sleep for most Nigerians. How can we sleep when things are all falling apart around us? It saddens my heart to see the appalling state of our nation and the quick progressive decline in the quality of governance and the management of the polity. Naija as it were has gone to the dogs and really, it's only a matter of time before shit finally hits the fan. Because, we must hit rock-bottom before we can start to think of a Nigeria that is workable.

APGA suspends Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State

“The NEC unanimously resolved to suspend, with immediate effect, the Governor of Imo state, Rochas Okoroacha, from the party for gross anti-party activities, bordering on his involvement with the All Progressives Congress contrary to the clear provisions of the APGA constitution." The National Vice-Chairman of APGA (South-West), Tayo Sowunm said yesterday.

APC May Not Last Long - Okupe
The Senior Special Assistant to President Goodluck Jonathan on Public Affairs, Doyin Okupe, has said the newly registered All Progressives Congress, APC, may not last for long because “its foundation is wrong, its combination is faulty and its ideologies are not clearly defined.’’
He said the registration of APC by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, underscored the openness of the present administration.
Mr. Okupe made this remark when he spoke with newsmen in Abuja on Thursday.
He stressed that the registration of the APC by INEC also demonstrated “political liberalism of President Jonathan.
“This would not have happened under many Africa Presidents, especially when it is obvious that there were obvious hurdles and obstacles to that registration’’, Mr. Okupe said.
Such obstacles, he said, could have been exploited and amplified and used by people of lesser integrity to frustrate the registration of the party. He held that the PDP-led Federal Government was not afraid of the APC registration.
“These are people that were beaten individually and collectively before, we will defeat them randomly.

Former Governor of Anambra State and Senator representing Anambra Central Senatorial District, Dr. Chris Nwabueze Ngige has addressed the media on the alleged deportation of ndi Igbo from Lagos State. Senator Ngige stated this in a letter to Aka Ikenga a socio cultural group which had requested that he take up the matter with the Governor of Lagos State. Below are
the contents of his letter and attached annexes( communication between Lagos State and Anambra governments)
Greetings,
I write in respect of the above subject matter, which Aka Ikenga at its 28th July, 2013 general meeting which I was privileged to attend as Special Guest of Honour, requested me to take up with the Lagos State Government. I am glad to inform you that I was received in audience the day after, by His Excellency; Governor Raji Babatunde Fashola( SAN) the Governor of Lagos State and the issue was discussed exhaustively.
At the meeting, the Lagos State Governor disclosed that contrary to claims, the issue in question has nothing to do with deportation, but a Social Welfare Intervention, involving several homeless destitutes and other psychiatric cases roaming the streets and some living under the bridges in Lagos. These people were taken in and treated and cared for by the Lagos State Government free of charge and thereafter needed to be reintegrated with their families.

Notorious Armed Robber Godogodo Is Captured In Ibadan
A wanted robbery suspect, Abiodun Ogunjobi, aka Abbey Godogodo, who was said to have been terrorising the South-West for some time, has been arrested by the Lagos State Police Command.
According to police authorities, the suspect led the gang that killed seven people, including the owner of 04 Hotel, Ajah, Lagos, Olanrewaju Subair, on July 7, 2013.
They also killed two other security guards at a popular hotel along Apapa Road, Ebute Meta area of the state on the same day.
The suspect, who was paraded on Thursday, told PUNCH Metro that he killed many policemen, adding that he had been into robbery for over 10 years and had built houses.
Ogunjobi said, “I started robbery in 1996 but in 1999, I was charged for fighting. I spent about seven years in prison. My prolonged stay in prison for minor crime of fighting hardened me and I vowed to pay back the police for that injustice. After I was released, I went to Katangowa in Iyana-Ipaja area of Lagos to meet my friend, Odun.
“Odun was an armed robber, so, we started operating together. We worked with several gangs and I invested lots of my money in arms buying. I also built five houses in Ifo, Ilaro, Ikorodu and Ibadan. I usually kill policemen and take their rifles because policemen have killed several of my boys and taken most of my rifles from them.

Quality Nigerian Husbands Will Be Scarce By 2023 - Women Group
The National Council of Catholic Women Organisation of Nigeria on Thursday warned against the alarming drop of male-child in education.
With the drop, the group noted that in the next 10 years, there would be a scarcity of quality husbands in the country.
The organisation National President, Chief Onyeabo, stated this on Thursday at a briefing to herald College, Abuja.
She said, "The future of this country is going to be very bleak for the male-child. How many girls do you see hawking clothes? Go to Onitsha, they are all men. We have looked round and have come to see that there is a neglect of boys in education. Who are the armed robbers They are mostly the boys on the streets
"The NCCWO feels that a vacuum is being created, and very soon, we shall be faced with a situation where our educated girl-child will not find a corresponding suitable boy-child to marry. This is because more boys drop out of school, apparently because the high unemployed youth discourages our young boys from appreciating the need to be educated.
"The NCCWO also consideres the fact that in the near future, quality husbands will become extremely scarce, with too many highly educated women looking husbands, and settling for anyhow husbands, just to get married. The result of this type of situation is better imagined and will not augur well for Nigerians."
Ladipo Market Belongs To Mushin LGA - LGA Boss
The Chairman of Mushin Local Government, Mr Babatunde Adepitan has answered the lingering question about the ownership of Aguiyi-Ironsi International Market at Ladipo Market in Mushin, Lagos State, southwest Nigeria.
He spoke on the ground that some people are confused over the ownership of the market.
Adepitan explained that the land originally belonged to Lagos State government and was meant for the establishment of Mushin General Hospital.
He explained that the state government, observing that the environment as a market place, will not be conducive for the intended hospital, decided to change the original plan.
He said that Lagos State ceded the land to Mushin LGA to be used as a market after payment of certain amount.
Adepitan further explained that the council in private partnership arrangement, entered into an agreement and leased the land to a private company called Paramo Development Ventures Limited owned by the late Alhaji Hassan Olajoku.
“The lease will last for 25 years and since then the council left the development and management of the market to Paramo,” he explained.
