FG-Okonjo-Iweala spent $2.1bn without approval

The National Economic Council, chaired by Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo, on Monday accused former Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, of spending $2.1bn from the Excess Crude Account without authorisation.

“We looked at the numbers for the Excess Crude Account. The last time the former Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mrs Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, reported to the council, and it is in the minutes, she reported by November 2014 that we had $4.1 bn.

The presidency today restored the press pass of Ubale Musa, a journalist with Deutsche Welle radio who was thrown out of the villa for asking visiting Chadian president, Idris Deby some 'embarrassing questions' in March. Ubale had asked the Chadian President the whereabouts of Boko Haram leader, Abubakar Shekau, making reference to a statement by Deby in March that Shekau had been seen in Dikwa, Borno state.

The man, known only as Mahdi (top left) attempted to thwart the killer by throwing an ashtray at his head after seeing him gundown dozens of tourists as they sunbathed on Friday. The 26-year-old tour guide has since told of trying to pile tourists into a little fishing boat to escape the beach, describing those murdered as 'like family'. He said the fear of losing his job was what spurred him to attack Seifeddine Rezgui, the ISIS terrorist responsible for the attack. The driver and security guard of former Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology Akure, Ondo state who was found dead inside a store in his home in Ijapo estate in Akure on June 28th have given a vivid description of how they killed him.

Bamidele, who was fired by the late don for attempting to steal his car some months back, said he connived with Daniel Ita the security guard to carry out the act. He said Daniel lured the old man out of the main house before he strangled him to death.

Yesterday during the BET awards, Rihanna got angry and threw money in the face of BET Exec, Stephen Hill after he told her she's not allowed to throw money into the audience when she climbed the stage to promote the new video for her hit single 'B***h Betta Have My Money'.
The camera caught Rihanna arguing with Stephen just before stepping on stage to introduce her video then tossing a stack of cash in his face while mouthing something to the effect of 'That's why I hate coming to BET.'. She hasn't been to one in years. The two later made up.

The Nigeria football Federation ( NFF ) has fired Super Falcons head coach Edwin Okon. According to reports, he was fired following the Super Falcons poor performance at the just concluded FIFA Women's World cup in Canada after the team failed to make it out of the group stage. The team's assistant coach, Christopher Danjuma has been appointed acting coach.

15 AFRIFF students to attend US Film School on a Ford Foundation Scholarship

Laughter, hugs and handshakes went round and around as 15 scholarship recipients said goodbye to friends and colleagues during a media parley and send-forth event held at the Africa International Film Festival (AFRIFF) office in Victoria Island, Lagos.

The Ford Foundation, in collaboration with AFRIFF, provided scholarships to them for being the best in their chosen fields of training at the 2014 AFRIFF’s Talent Development Workshops.

Buhari today inaugurated the National Economic Council which will be chaired by VP Yemi Osinbajo, while all the 36 state governors and the Governor of the central bank Godwin Emefiele are to serve as members. Younger brother to Aisha Buhari, Musa Yola, has denied media reports that he was arrested on the order of President Buhari over a N300 million oil bloc fraud. Sahara Reporters had published a report earlier today claiming Yola was arrested last week on the order of the President for defrauding a businessman of N300 million with the promise to help him secure an oil bloc. Speaking with Premium Times, Mr Yola said he was shocked at the reports.

“As we speak, I am in the President’s office and I was with him last night. I simply don’t know or understand who is behind these malicious rumours,” he said.
