The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) today declared its support for the newly appointed Emir of Kano, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi.
In a statement obtained by SaharaReporters, the group described the new emir as competent.
The statement, which was signed by the ACF’s publicity secretary,
Muhammad Ibrahim, read: “May Allah give the new Emir the wisdom and
courage to see this new position
as the father of Kano people and by extension Northerners and Nigeria
at large. The new Emir should therefore bring his wealth of experience,
competence and exposure to bear in uniting the royal family members and
people of Kano for a peaceful transition and continuation of the good
legacies of [the] late Ado Bayero.”
The group called on Mr. Sanusi to uphold the sanctity of the emirate.
“ACF has an unflinching regard and respect [for] the traditional
institutions as peace stabilizers, custodians of our core values,
culture and customs. We therefore call on HRH Sanusi Lamido Sanusi to
uphold the sanctity of the institution and consider his appointment as a
rare opportunity to serve his people in this new capacity. We pray that
Almighty Allah will protect and guide him and also bless his reign with
peace, unity and development,” the group stated.
It added: “The traditional institution of Kano is highly revered and
respected not only by Kano people (Kanawas) but [by] all Nigerians and
even beyond our shores because of its rich cultural heritage and accommodation of all manners of people irrespective of their religious, political and tribal inclinations.”
The ACF also appealed to Emir Sanusi’s subjects to support him,
urging them to seek dialogue rather than violence, describing the
appointment of the new emir as something “decreed by Allah.”
ACF called for peace and tranquility to reign, adding that violence and destruction have never solved problems. The group urged Nigerians to always seek peaceful and acceptable ways of resolving disagreements and grievances.
