An advocacy group, Youth and Conflict Resolution Initiatives, has
alleged sabotage in the fight against Boko-Haram insurgency in some
parts of the country. The group said it was worrisome that the
insurgents could successfully launch coordinated attacks in Adamawa and
Borno states, despite the curfew and state of emergency imposed on the
states. Continue...
The Director, International Relations, Efemena Agadama, who spoke
with our reporter from London, said the reports of the insurgents
capturing communities under state of emergency was a clear indication
that the ongoing war was being sabotaged by forces that were insiders or
privy to government information and intelligence materials.
“It is a betrayal of trust and violation of allegiance to the state,
which is treason. And this calls for the Federal Government to review
the mechanism for the dissemination of military intelligence and
information.
“There is no way any terrorist group can survive in a very hostile
environment, especially from the political class that commands public
opinion there. That is not possible, but we can see that Boko Haram is
not only surviving but launching deadly assaults against the army and
even the Air Force,” he said.
Efemena said it was unheard of in the history of the country that any
group or body had ever launched deadly raids against any military
brigade, barrack or base within the national space.
According to him, such warring successes recorded by the insurgents
were proofs that internal forces were bent on destabilising the country
ahead of the 2015 general elections.
He said the current sabotaging of the state of emergency amounted to treason and should attract the necessary prosecutions.
“Then there are those who are promoting Boko Haram staged videos to
fool foreign human rights groups, demoralise the military and support
the Boko Haram cause,” he added.
Efemena urged those sponsoring the terrorist group to stop
undermining the collective reasoning of Nigerians by trying to falsely
accuse those who were strongly against them as their sponsors.
“That is a mathematical deception meant to distort the truth, divert
attention, set the North against the South, undermine the state of
emergency and push Nigeria to events of 1967. The state of emergency is
being undermined and currently being sabotaged and we condemn such
treasonable acts and call for urgent prosecutions,” he added.
