A woman in heels can be several shades of sexy.
But
inspite of the pretty picture this makes, heels can actually negatively
impart on a woman's health, triggering a range of health challenges. Continue...
Here are 6 ways heels can be bad for a woman's health.
- The feet act as spring-loaded, weight-distributing shock absorbers which protect the skeleton from pounding. Wearing heels shift much of the body mass on the balls of the feet and toe bones which could be bad.
- Walking in heels forces the wearer to change the natural body stance and continuously doing this could usher in bone and nerve damage.
- Wearing heels forces your ankles to bend forward, a movement that could restrict circulation in your lower limbs and in the long-term, this could eventually cause spider veins.
- Walking in heels also stiffens the Achilles tendons, which anchor the calf muscles to your (feet)heels, causing your calves to squeeze.
- Over time, regular heel wearers can develop chronically taut (and shortened) ankle and calf tendons, making walking (even in flats) painful.
- Frequent walking in high-heels can put extra stress on the inner sides of the knees, fast-tracking the wear and tear that leads to osteoarthritis (degeneration of joint cartilage and the underlying bone)
- Walking in heels makes the spine sway unnaturally, this stresses the lumbar erector spinae muscle, thus resulting in a sore lower back.
